The subdelegate of the Government in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, stressed today in Quiroga that machista violence can only be eliminated from the work in common, “and in this fight to achieve an egalitarian society we must highlight the key and indispensable role that coeducation plays, introducing egalitarian values, free of stereotypes and sexist damages, providing models of relationship from equality.” The subdelegate made this reflection during the presentation this morning in the City Council that Quiroga of the project “MAVI: the Travelling Suitcase against Gender Violence”, the initiative promoted by the Subdelegation of the Government that brings educational resources on equality and against male violence in the province.
Isabel Rodríguez, accompanied by the mayor, Julio Álvarez; and the head of the gender violence unit of the Subdelegation, María Luisa Castro, reported that Quiroga is the new stop of this initiative “with which we want to amplify the messages of rejection of any type of violence against women.” Thus, she explained that this initiative contains books on different topics related to feminism, equality, empowerment, self-esteem or gender violence to the neighbors and neighbors of the province.
“MAVI is an innovative and at the same time very necessary proposal” stressed the subdelegate who warned that Quiroga currently has 4 active cases in the Monitoring System of Gender Violence (Vioxén). “We take this project to the municipalities, to the administration closest to the citizens and, therefore, more easily for these messages to silence and sensitize society, with the aim of multiplying the impact and, in this way, preventing all forms of violence against women,” added Isabel Rodríguez.
The deputy delegate explained that, with Quiroga’s, there are three suitcases that travel through the province, since the inmates in the Bonxe and Monterroso Penitentiary Centers have been working with this material for weeks, which will follow their trip in women’s information centers, associations of women victims of gender violence and social services of the municipalities that request the suitcase. These suitcases have already stopped in the municipalities of Viveiro and Sarria, with texts that promote reflection, awareness and awareness on determining issues to achieve a more egalitarian society and free of violence, favoring critical thinking against the stereotypes and gender roles that perpetuate these violence and inequalities.
Suitcase and travel journal
In this first stage, the suitcase has twelve children's, youth and adult books, with the idea that not only women, but also girls and young people can be part of the project. The suitcase also contains a travel journal in which the people involved in the project can write and share their reflections on the readings.
Among the works that guard a suitcase are titles such as “Is there anything more boring than being a pink princess?”, by Raquel Díaz Reguera; “Lana cenicienta que en el quiero comer perdices”, by Nunila López and Myriam Cameros; “All of me should be feminists”, by Chimamanda Ngozi; “My husband beats me the normal”, by Miguel Lorente Acosta; “Tired”, by Nuria Varela; “El libro de lana hija”, by Inma López Silva; or “Rosta.” In addition, the suitcase contains a travel journal in which people participating in the project can write and share their reflections on the readings.
On the other hand, the municipalities through which you will pass the suitcase can add those books written or starring by the women of the municipality to make visible the talent and stories of the women of the province.
