The subdelegate of the Government in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, today valued positively the training offered by the National Police to schoolchildren in the province to prevent them from misuse of the Internet and social networks and thus avoid being victims of cybercrime. “One in five crimes committed in Galicia are telematic, hence the importance of promoting the responsible use of social networks among young people and girls, always protecting their data and privacy”, warned Rodríguez during the delivery of cards to 18 students of the CEIP Plurilingue Benigno Quiroga Ballesteros, in Lugo, who participated in the Cyberexpert@ course taught by the National Police.
The subdelegate congratulated all boys and girls and highlighted the need to raise awareness among children, digital natives, of the dangers to which they are exposed in the networks and provide them with tools for the good management of their information. The delegate of Citizen Participation of the National Police, Rubén Darío Veiga, and the director of the center, Marta Randulfe, also participated in the event.
Isabel Rodríguez reported that both the National Police and the Civil Guard are doing a great deal of educational work in this area, offering talks in the educational centers of the province. One of these training programs is the Cyberexpert@, which is taught by the National Police and which will reach 350 students of 6th grade of primary school of the city of Lugo, with talks in several days.
With the development of this initiative, the National Police tries to sensitize and train minors with the aim of minimizing the risks they may encounter in the daily use of ICT. It is also intended to familiarize minors and their educational and family environment in the use of tools for safer navigation and to train schoolchildren in the responsible use of social networks.
During this course, the students of the CEIP Sagrada Corazón, CEIP Manuel Mallo Mallo, CEIP Quiroga Ballesteros, CPR Salesianos, CEIP Rosalía de Castro, CEIP Casás and CEIP Isla Verde participated in this training. In addition, for the next few weeks sessions are scheduled at the CEIP of Albeiros and CEIP A Ponte. In total, schoolchildren from 9 Portuguese schools will receive digital identity training, social networks, identity supplantation, cyberbullying, sexting, grooming and technoadditions, among others.
