The subdelegate of the Government in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, ratified today in Carballedo the impulse of the Government with the digitalization of the municipalities of the province through different state programs for which it is developing a great economic effort in the province, mobilizing 28.3 million euros since 2018. “We are committed to extending the deployment of ultra-fast broadband networks in rural areas because it is right that all citizens have the same rights, reducing the digital divide between the most populated and the most despoboiled and difficult to access areas and, at the same time, facing the demographic challenge,” said the subdelegate who exemplified in Carballedo the impact of these initiatives, bringing this connection to more than 530 areas that do not currently have this technology.
The deputy delegate traveled this morning to the City of Carballedo in which she held a meeting with the mayor, Julio Yebra-Pimentel, and with the head of the company Adamo in Galicia, David Llano, to personally check how the plans promoted by the Government for the installation of broadband continue to advance in the province. Specifically, through the PEBA and UNICO Program, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation will bring the ultra-fast connection to the Internet throughout the territory of Carballedo, allowing the more than 2,000 neighbors who live and work in the municipality to have broadband coverage, basic to the daily life of any citizen.
“We will reach all the municipalities, the 67 municipalities of the province, to bring a fundamental service to the Lucenses and, in this way, fight against the depopulation of rural areas” confirmed Isabel Rodríguez who affirmed that “by the year 2025, thanks to the Government of Pedro Sánchez, 100% of the population will be able to have access to fast and quality communications, with a minimum speed of 100 megas”.
With the PEBA Plan, the company Adamo has already carried the optical fiber to the homes located in 35 municipalities of the province and in the coming months has planned to carry out works to deploy ultra-fast Internet in more municipalities. In addition, with the Government’s UNICO Program, they will reach 33,000 new homes to add more than 100,000 properties connected to the high-speed network in the province. In this regard, the subdelegate defended the role of public-private collaboration to promote a paradigm shift that allows a full digital transition in Lugo.
Rural Demand
During the meeting, Isabel Rodríguez said that soon the Government will launch the UNICO-Rural Demand Program with which all companies and households that do not have optical fiber will be able to contract an Internet broadband service through the Hispasat satellite for 35 euros per month, including installation costs. This is a program put on until the end of the Central Executive’s plan to bring fiber optics to the entire country in 2025.
