The government delegate in Galicia, José Miñones, values the economic injection of 12.2 million euros extra from Paradores for the improvement of six accommodations in Galicia within its Strategic Plan 2023-2026. These funds add to the 23 million that the Government’s Recovery Plan reserves for the same purpose and that revert to the increase in competitiveness of the tourism sector of Galicia. This was confirmed by the delegate in Madrid, in a meeting with the president of Paradores de Turismo de España, Pedro Saura. In short, the paradores of Santiago, Baiona, Ferrol, Vilalba, Monforte and Santo Estevo receive more than 35 million euros from the Government. “We are designing the tourism of the future of Galicia. To make our land a sustainable, competitive and quality destination of the first level”, concluded the delegate.
José Miñones framed this action in the impulse of the Government of Pedro Sánchez to the modernization and transformation of tourism in Galicia, with 200 million euros of investment from 2020 and until this year 2023. He detailed that the four Galician provinces benefit from this bet and from the improvement of these unique accommodations. Specifically, in the province of A Coruña, Paradores reserves 9,600,000 euros for the Hostal dos Reis Católica and 50,000 euros for the Parador de Ferrol. In Pontevedra, the Parador de Baiona receives 1,1667,000 euros. In Lugo, Paradores allocates 300,000 euros of its own funds to accommodation in Vilalba and 260,000 euros to Monforte de Lemos. In Ourense, Santo Estevo is worth 300,000 euros.
The investments of the Strategic Plan 2023-2026 of Paradores de Turismo de España together with the funds of the Recovery Plan amount to more than 35 million euros. The installation on which the improvements are most focused is the Parador de Santiago, which receives a total of 22.7 million. In short, the Parador de Baiona receives 8.1 million. That of Monforte, more than 1.5 million; Santo Estevo, 1.47 million; Vilalba 1.14 million and Ferrol, about 169,000 euros.
José Miñones also recalled that since 2020, the Government has promoted the Tourism Sustainability Plans in Destination, a tool to advance in the configuration of more sustainable, green and digital tourist destinations and to walk towards the seasonalization of demand. Since then, the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism has promoted 34 Sustainability Plans and cohesion actions between destinations in Galicia with an investment of 85.7 million. These plans are already benefiting one in two Galician municipalities, in an unprecedented investment that adds the ordinary and extraordinary calls, which are framed in the Government’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
The improvement of these six establishments in Galicia is framed in the program of rehabilitation of Goods of Cultural Interest (BIC) where the Paradores de Turismo are located, with different actions of patrimonial improvement and energy efficiency. On a recent visit to Santiago, the Secretary of State for Tourism, Rosana Morillo, highlighted the Plaza del Obradoiro as a symbol of the government’s commitment to Galician tourism, with the transformation of its emblematic buildings: the Cathedral, the Parador and the Pazo de Raxoi. The Hostal dos Reis Católica will face conservation actions of the south and east facades, the Renaissance courtyards and cloisters and the historic eaves. Also planned are actions linked to the monumental lighting of the exterior of the building and the four courtyards, as well as the conservation of the Royal Chapel.
