The Government’s deputy delegate in A Coruña, María Rivas, reaffirmed this morning in a visit to Betanzos that “the Government’s Recovery Plan is reaching the entire territory” and valued the 12 million euros received by the province for the rehabilitation of buildings of municipal ownership.
The subdelegate visited Mercado de Abastos in Betanzos accompanied by the mayor of the municipality, María Barral. The Market of Supplies is one of the beneficiaries of the Program of Impulse to the Rehabilitation of Public Buildings (Pirep), included in the Recovery Plan and which will receive an aid of 1,482,081 euros.
“Betanzos is a clear example of how the Government is reaching the entire territory with the Recovery Plan with the aim of improving the quality of life of the citizens, in this case of all the people who live in this province,” said the deputy delegate.
During her visit to the market, María Rivas said that “there is no doubt that the rehabilitation of this market, to which in addition to the local product stalls, hospitality spaces will be added will give an even greater boost to this historic center already attractive and valuable.”
During her visit to the market, the subdelegate took a tour of the different stalls and exchanged impressions with the placeras and the placeros that coincided with her on the need to revitalize such an emblematic building with so much potential.
María Rivas stressed that “the Government of Spain has once again opted for Betanzos, to support it and continue promoting it as one of the most interesting destinations to visit within our province”.
In this regard, he recalled the funds that the Government has allocated to the municipality with 1.5 M euros for the Parc del Pasatiempo and another 1.5 M euros through the Tourist Sustainability Plan Reserva das Mariñas e Terras do Mandeo.
The rehabilitation proposal
The rehabilitation proposal aims to recover the historic building, to value the spatial characteristics of the original property, eliminating the added plant and recovering spatial clarity.
In addition, the expansion of sales outlets to make this building a reference for traditional supply markets is also contemplated. The proposal includes a water recycling system for the irrigation of the ornamental interior plantation. In this commitment to sustainability, a composting plant for organic waste and photovoltaic panels is proposed on the roof for the production of renewable energy.
Among the proposed actions is the restoration of the original façade in an integral way, eliminating the added elements and dismantling the non-original mezzanine.
The deputy delegate stressed that “Betanzos is an increasingly sustainable city council, as demonstrated by some of the energy efficiency actions that have been carried out.” Among them, he noted the substition of the 2,536 traditional lights by new LED lights financed by 80% by the IDAE with 1.79 million euros.
