The subdelegate of the Government in Pontevedra, Maica Larriba, confirmed today in Tomiño the footprint of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan of the Government in the municipalities of the province, with more than 890,000 euros for the renewal and modernization of the outdoor public lighting system in this locality. “The Government of Pedro Sánchez helps small municipalities to fight depopulation and participate in the energy transition, turning the Recovery Plan into an opportunity to accelerate the leap towards a greener, sustainable and fair economy,” said the deputy delegate, during a visit to the city council in which she explained that these actions are financed within the framework of the DUS 5000 Program, managed by the Ministry of Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge.
“Thanks to this aid from the State, the City of Tomiño will be able to modernize 2,000 of the 7,000 luminaires of the municipality with efficient technology, reducing their energy consumption by 50% and obtaining a domotic control of them, which will allow to manage even their level of luminosity,” said Maica Larriba. The deputy delegate met with the mayor, Sandra González, and part of the municipal corporation, to inform them, in addition, about the available programs of the Government in housing, ecological transition and public administration, review the status of the remaining investments of the State in the locality and know, at the same time, their demands and concerns.
Maica Larriba explained that the financial contribution of the Executive costs 85% of the total actions, which amount to 987,868.66 €, and means a very important collaboration for a City Council such as Tomiño, “which was able to face a work that today gains a lot of relevance for energy issues and for the need to advance in the energy transition”.
The DUS 5000 is aimed at municipalities with a population of less than 5,000 inhabitants with the aim of encouraging the energy transition and the change towards sustainable mobility of small municipalities, which are more difficult to undertake large investments, through unique and clean energy projects. In the province of Pontevedra, the subdelegate reported that, within the framework of this program, 10 municipalities – Barro, Cuntis, Moraña, Oia, O Rosal, Salceda, Salvaterra, Silleda and Tomiño – will develop 12 projects aimed at promoting sustainable urban development, for which they will receive a contribution from the State of more than 10 million euros.
High-speed internet and other state investments in the municipality
The subdelegate informed of the presence of Tomiño in the two calls for digitization of the territory promoted by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation within the Recovery Plan. Thus, Tomiño will have high-speed internet, greater than 300mb, in 60 new areas where 340 homes and companies of the municipality are located. “We guarantee the connectivity of more than 300 megas to almost the entire territory, at points where this type of coverage is not available to date, basic for people living in rural areas and to settle a new population,” added Maica Larriba.
In addition, the subdelegate recalled that these investments are not the only traces of the Recovery Plan in this City Council, which under the umbrella of the line of aid to sustainable markets, comes from getting more than half a million euros to develop actions to consolidate the local trade. In addition, Tomiño is also part of the project ‘Geodestino Ría de Vigo and Baixo Miño. Despensa de Galicia’, which was financed with 1.5 million euros.
Maica Larriba also recalled other investments of the Government, such as the initiatives to improve the energy efficiency of the IDAE, for which Tomiño received more than 1.2 million euros or the transfers within the framework of the State Pact against Gender Violence, under which the town received more than 32 thousand euros in the last five years. In total, the State’s investment in the City Council exceeds 3.2 million euros.
