Carballiño, February 14, 2023.- The subdelegate of the Government in Ourense, Emilio González, has presented the data of the UNICO-Broadband Plan in the region of Terras do Arenteiro that has allowed Concellos such as Boborás, Carballiño or Punxín to have passed in the last two years of not having broadband implementation to reach more than half of its inhabitants.”
Gonzalez pointed out that this investment will bring broadband internet to “more than 4,000 neighbors and neighbors of Arenteiro improving connectivity in 1,300 population centers throughout the region, breaking the digital divide that exists today.” This is what he said this morning at a meeting held at the Concello de Carballiño. He has traveled there with the Chief of Telecommunications Inspection of the province, Enrique San Martín, who has informed the mayors of the seven municipalities of the region –Carballiño, Maside, Boborás, San Cristovo de Cea, Piñor de Cea, Beariz, San Amaro– of the state of compliance of the plan placing the concellos of the region as an area of great connectivity.
In Ourense the plan has an investment of 18,391,322 euros for 45,635 units in Ourense whose works are being carried out by the company Adamo Telecom
With this new line of aid, financed with the Next Generation EU funds within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, a public-private investment of 388.2 million euros will be mobilized, which is in addition to the 1.120 million mobilized since 2018. These investments have enabled us to bring ultra-fast broadband connections to more than four million homes and businesses by 2021.
In the case of Galicia, as in most of the state territory, the households and companies benefited are in ‘white zones’, those that do not have coverage of speed networks of at least 30 Mbps, nor plans for their allocation in the next three years.
UNICO-Broadband Program
The Recovery Plan has provided for an investment of 2 billion euros until 2023 to extend and improve digital infrastructures, strengthen territorial cohesion and face the demographic challenge. The goal, also included in the Spain Digital 2025 agenda, is that 100% of the Spanish population will have broadband coverage by 2025.
This aid has been implemented through the UNICO Broadband Program and its predecessor of the PEBA-NGA Plan has provided grants worth 655 M €, mobilizing investments of a joint amount of more than 1.120 M € to cover 4 million homes with ultra-fast broadband networks.
UNICO Plan Rural Demand
The Subdelegate of the Government has also highlighted the recent call for the Single Rural Demand Plan that will improve coverage in remote areas at an affordable price, “affecting democratization and breaking the digital divide in which the Government works.” This will be possible thanks to satellite technology awarded to Hispasat by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation and which will allow high-speed access in remote territories where fixed technology cannot be available at a price that cannot be higher than € 35 per month for the end users of the service. Emilio González pointed out that this is “very good news for a province like Ourense in which due to its orography it is difficult to access certain populations”
