The government delegate in Galicia, José Miñones today reaffirmed with the Galician hospitality management the joint commitment to eradicate any type of harassment or violence against women in the field of nightlife and to strengthen the coordination mechanisms between companies, Administration and Security Forces to combat any such behavior in the sector.
This has been done after holding, today in A Coruña, a meeting with the heads of the regional and provincial Hotel and Catering Associations to promote the prevention and protection mechanisms against harassment in the nightlife establishments of Galicia, “and also send a message of tranquility to the population and, above all, to women,” he said.
The meeting was attended by the president of Hostelería de Galicia and president of APEHL (Provincial Association of Hotel and Catering Entrepreneurs Lugo), José Francisco Real; the president of the Provincial Hotel and Catering Association of A Coruña, Héctor Cañete; the president of the Federation of Hotel and Catering Entrepreneurs of Ourense, Ovidio Fernández, and the president of the Provincial Hotel and Catering Association of Pontevedra, César Ballesteros.
After the meeting, José Miñones announced that the Government Delegation, in collaboration with the Hospitality Associations of Galicia, will organize training sessions aimed at professionals in the sector, “in order to reinforce the guidelines to be followed in case of sexual violence in these establishments”. The conferences will be held in the four provinces and will be open to as many establishments and professionals as possible.
Violet Dot Guide
José Miñones pointed out that, although the Government works at the national level on a framework protocol specific to this sector, since last year it has had a general guide, which contains clear guidelines that can be applied in any establishment, including nightlife. It is the “Violet Point Guide”, a document of free access, which indicates the way to act whether you are experiencing violence as a protagonist or as a spectator.
“Following this guide any establishment or any person, linked to hospitality, nightlife or any other activity, can provide appropriate help to any woman who is sexually assaulted,” explained the delegate.
The delegate recalled that “the Government of Pedro Sánchez has already allocated 55 million euros in Galicia to the fight against gender violence and will continue to dedicate efforts and resources to it”, through campaigns, initiatives and investments that materialize the public commitment to equality and against male violence “including that which we can link to leisure moments”.
