The subdelegate of the Government in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, today exemplified in A Pastoriza the effort of the Government of Pedro Sánchez to digitize the rural municipalities of the province of Lugo with an investment of 22.5 million euros from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. Isabel Rodríguez traveled this morning to the City Council of A Pastoriza where the Central Executive will deploy high-speed internet connection to 1,362 families and companies installed in the municipality with UNICO-Broadband, the program launched by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation.
“It is an example of how the policies of the Government of Spain are impacting to improve the life of the Lucenses, with real projects that respond to the demands of the citizens and that are in vain aimed at reducing the digital divide, a priority objective within the demographic challenge, because by providing new technologies to small municipalities we increase the possibilities of development and strengthen territorial cohesion,” said the subdelegate during the meeting this morning with the mayor of A Pastoriza, Primitivo Iglesias, in which they dealt with the available programs of the Government in housing, ecological transition, tourism and public administration.
Isabel Rodríguez reported that the City of Pastoriza is present in the two calls for digitization of the territory promoted by the Government through the UNICO-Broadband program, which guarantees that 488 areas of the town have connectivity of more than 300 megas. “This initiative promotes that the entire population has access to telecommunications under equal conditions, fundamental for a province like Lugo with a high territorial dispersion,” he added.
Thus, A Pastoriza is included in the high-speed Internet projects carried out by the Ministry with the Recovery Plan and that are carried out, with two calls already resolved: the one of 2021, which is already in execution; and the call of 2022, already awarded. With this program, the Government finances up to 90% of the costs (technology, works, permits, etc.) incurred by technology companies to carry high-speed Internet (greater than 300mb) to the areas without coverage.
In the province of Lugo, the households and companies benefiting from this project are located in `white zones´, those that do not have coverage of speed networks of at least 30 Mbps, nor plans for its allocation for the next three years. Between the two calls for this plan, the Government will bring ultra-fast connection technology to more than 32,700 homes and businesses in the province.
“In this line we are going to continue working, promoting the digital transformation of Lucan municipalities and defending access to a basic service such as the Internet for neighbors who live in rural areas,” said Isabel Rodríguez.
