The delegate of the Government in Galicia, José Miñones, transmitted this morning his congratulations to the third vice-president of the Government, Teresa Ribera, for the unblocking of new wind farms that are necessary for the advancement of strategic industrial projects in Galicia. The delegate appreciated the speed with which the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) processed these dossiers despite the slowness with which the autonomous community sent. “The Ministry and the technicians demonstrate their commitment to carry out these parks of absolute relevance for Galicia, despite the delay with which the information was provided by the Xunta de Galicia, to which the Government granted two exceptional extensions,” said the delegate. In several cases, the Xunta forwarded to the Government the necessary documentation for processing in the last few days, between December and this month of January. The new wind farms approved for Galicia add a power of 656.2 megawatts (MW).
José Miñones assessed that Ecological Transition resolved a total of 11 wind files with respect to 12 parks, of which 7 were resolved favourably, 2 were unfavorable and 3 were filed due to lack of the mandatory documentation on the environmental impact that the Xunta should send. The approved parks clear the way for the future plans of “vital for Galicia” industries such as Alcoa and Showa Denko.
“Galicia is a power in renewable energies and the green transition is the only way to the future of our industry,” stressed José Miñones.
The seven parks with favorable resolution are the following:
Wind farm ‘Tesouro’ (60 MW). In A Capela and As Pontes (A Coruña). ENEL Green Power España S.L.
Wind Farm ‘Barqueiro’ (150 MW). In As Pontes, As Somozas, Cerdido, Mañón, Moeche and Ortigueira (A Coruña); and O Vicedo (Lugo). ENEL Green Power España S.L.
Wind farm ‘Badulaque’ (90 MW). En Valdadoviño, Cerdido, Cerdeira, Moeche, As Somozas y As Pontes (A Coruña). ENEL Green Power España S.L.
Wind farm ‘Sanctuary’ (180 MW). In Xermade, Vilalba, Guitiriz (Lugo); and As Pontes (A Coruña). ENEL Green Power España S.L.
Parque Eólico ‘Moeche’ (53 MW) en Moeche, As Somozas, As Pontes y San Sadurniño (A Coruña). ENEL Green Power España S.L.
Wind farms ‘Orzar’ (56 MW) and ‘Tornado’ (67.2 MW). In Carballo, Tordoia, Val do Dubra and Trazo (A Coruña). Greenalia Green Power Budget SLU.
The wind farms Barqueiro, Badulaque, Santuario, Tesouro and Moeche are included in the PPA contract signed between Endesa and Alcoa, to supply long-term energy to the Alcoa plant in San Cibrao (Lugo).
Orzar and Tornado are included in the PPA contract that the company Greenalia signed with the multinational Showa Denko to supply green energy for its facilities in Galicia.
The seven dossiers that receive the green light for the installation of wind turbines in Galicia passed the environmental procedure, in some cases making adjustments to ensure the compatibility of the generation of clean energy with the neutrality of its presence in the territory.
On the other hand, the ‘Caaveiro’ wind farm, which ENEL planned for Fene, Neda, Cabanas, San Sadurniño, A Capela and As Pontes with a power of 78 MW, was the only one that received an unfavourable opinion. In this case, the report itself submitted by the autonomous community was unfavorable to the creation of this wind facility, so the government ruled it out due to its impact.
Also negative was the resolution on the Wind Farm ‘Huracán’ (56 MW) proposed for Brión, Noia, Lousame, and Rois (A Coruña) by Greenalia Green Power Huracán SLU.
Two projects promoted by Green Capital (‘Fonte Barreiros’, 96 MW in Ribadeo, Barreiros, Foz, Cervo and Xove; and ‘Rula’, 55 MW in Cerfinger-Cotobade and Ponte Caldelas) and one by Greenalia (which grouped the parks ‘Tramontana’, 72.5 MW, and ‘Siroco’, 61.6 MW) were archived.
MITECO proceeded to file these three files by verifying that the mandatory reports of the autonomous community relating to environmental assessment are not included. The letter sent to the ministry by the General Directorate of Natural Heritage of the Xunta de Galicia does not incorporate the analysis of the environmental aspects that are within its competence.
