Today there are many Galician pensioners who are seeing reflected in their bank account the revaluation of their benefits. An increase of 8.5% with which, according to María Rivas, “the Spanish Government guarantees the purchasing power of these people in a context marked by high inflation”.
According to data provided by the Government’s subdelegate in A Coruña, “In the case of the province of A Coruña, 303,294 people will benefit from this increase to reach an average pension of 1,065 euros, which is about 90 euros more per month than last year.”
In the whole of A Coruña, this increase represents a total annual disbursement in pensions of 323 million euros, some 28 million more than last year, an amount with which, according to María Rivas, “an infrastructure such as the regeneration of the O Burgo estuary or the link of the Santiago de Compostela Orbital could be financed”
The deputy delegate points out that “this is possible thanks to the shielding made by the current government of the purchasing power of pensioners, since, if the revaluation of 0.25% per year set by the PP in 2013 had been applied, the average retirement pension would have risen less than 50 euros per year”.
Therefore, with the Government of Pedro Sánchez, pensions increase by 90 euros per month, 1,260 euros per year compared to the 50 euros per year that would have risen with the Government of the PP.
As things stand, the average pension in Galicia stands at 1,161 euros. In the case of retirement pensions, which represent almost two thirds of the total (62.8%), the average amount amounts to 1,160.85 euros. In the State as a whole, the average pension reaches 1,189.12 euros.
The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña emphasizes that “since the arrival of Pedro Sánchez to the Government the revaluation exceeds 25%, since in 2018 the average retirement pension was in Galicia at 927.78 euros”.
