The government delegate in Galicia, José Miñones, hopes that new municipalities in Galicia will benefit this year from the Government’s calls for modernization of tourist destinations, as do the 34 Galician destinations that have already received 85 million euros from the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism for their transformation.
The government delegate attended in Fitur the presentation of the strategic lines of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism in the Spanish tourism sector for this year. There, Minister Reyes Maroto has advanced the lines of work for the coming months, which will be consolidated under the new “National Blue Tourism Plan”, which is oriented to the destinations of the coast and the sea, “where Galicia, with its 1,500 kilometers of coastline, will have much to say”.
José Miñones has indicated that, although the details of this plan will be known next month, “there will be two new calls for aid to Tourism Sustainability Plans: an ordinary one and an extraordinary one, which already reaches the third edition”. The extraordinary call is funded by the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, and this year alone it will have a budget of 478 million euros.
Tourist Sustainability Plans in Destination
The Tourism Sustainability Plans in destinations are designed and promoted by Local Entities and contemplate integral interventions in the territory in order to effectively incorporate sustainability and digitalization in the management of tourist destinations. These plans allow municipalities, townships, counties or provincial councils to face the new challenges of the tourist ecosystem, which requires a more environmentally friendly, sustainable and digital offer.
José Miñones has claimed the need to incorporate sustainability into tourism management as it “allows progress towards a more seasonally displaced tourism with greater impact on the local economy, and with greater capacity to create employment and curb depopulation”.
The granting of this aid distinguishes coastal, urban and rural destinations and all of them require the implementation of four sets of actions: actions in the field of green and sustainable transition; actions to improve energy efficiency; actions in the field of digital transition and actions in the field of competitiveness.
José Miñones hopes that new municipalities in Galicia will join the Government’s tourism plan for 2023 that prioritizes sea and coastal destinations
