The government delegate in Galicia, José Miñones, today claimed in FITUR the 145 million euros that the Government of Pedro Sánchez is investing for the modernization of the Galician tourism sector and the consolidation of Galicia as a sustainable, digital and green tourist destination, which rests on its heritage and culture.
José Miñones went to the International Tourism Fair where he will support in today’s morning the presentation of different tourism actions and initiatives promoted by Galician administrations and financed by the Government of Spain. During the morning he was at the presentations of the tourist offers of the cities of Santiago and A Coruña and will also attend the presentation of the Tourist Sustainability Plan of Baixo Miño. He will also attend the presentations of initiatives of deputations and other municipalities and regions such as the Costa da Morte.
These actions are part of the tourism sustainability policies that the current Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism launched in 2020 and that were concretized in five calls (two extraordinary and three common). The delegate stressed the relevance of this program, an initiative of Minister Reyes Maroto, in Galicia, where the Government supports 34 sustainability plans promoted by municipalities and deputies with 85.7 million euros. Among these plans are destinations as relevant as the Ribeira Sacra, thermal tourism in Ourense, the city of Santiago or different actions within the Camino de Santiago as it passes through the community.
Cultural heritage of tourist use
The second line of investments of the Ministry of Industry focuses on the recovery of historical and cultural heritage for tourist use, actions that will be carried out with criteria of accessibility, energy efficiency and sustainability. In this area, the Government is investing 49.26 million euros in Galicia for the restoration of Goods of Cultural Interest so that they are incorporated with guarantees to the cultural offers of Galician counties and municipalities.
Of this amount, 22.7 million are destined to the heritage linked to the Camino de Santiago, with actions as relevant as the one being developed in the Parc del Pasatiempo, in Betanzos, or in the monumental complex of the villa of Monterrei. They are joined by the planned investment of 3 million euros in the Pazo de Raxoi, in Santiago, within the line for World Heritage Cities.
The remaining 23.5 million euros, to complete the total, will be used to restore BICs linked to the Paradores de Turismo in Galicia. The Government will face seven projects to improve heritage in seven paradores of the four Galician provinces.
Modernization of tourist establishments
Along with heritage and actions on destinations, the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade supports the modernization of tourist establishments in Galicia, to make them more energy efficient. This support is concretized through the Xunta de Galicia, to which the Government transferred 8.7 million euros to finance a specific aid order for these companies. The delegate stressed that this call is already open and through it the Ministry plans to reach 121 tourist establishments in Galicia.
