The government delegate in Galicia, José Miñones, has transferred to the mayors of the municipalities of Baixo Miño and Val Miñor most affected by the wind and rain storms of the end of 2022, the different ways to which they can go to compensate and face the expenses derived from the floods, within the framework of the State emergency and disaster aid lines.
The government delegate presented these measures accompanied by the government subdelegate in Pontevedra, Maica Larriba, at a meeting held in the city of Gondomar. José Miñones pointed out that “the declaration of a catastrophic zone requires very demanding criteria” and recalled that “the Xunta, as a competent administration, can declare the zone in an emergency situation, and from there begin the distribution of direct aid to the municipalities and their neighbors”. “This legal figure,” he explained, “protects the implementation of economic compensation in those scenarios that are not covered by Royal Decree 307 of the Government, of which I informed, since it is also an opportunity to face situations of a catastrophic nature.”
Thus, the government delegate insisted that “the important thing at this moment is that the Xunta immediately declare this area in an emergency situation and approve as soon as possible the Decree to establish the criteria for the distribution of aid”.
José Miñones listened to the municipal officials and shared their concern about the considerable damage that affected public and private infrastructures or seriously damaged services and spaces, the repair of which is, in some cases, practically unbearable for municipal economies.
In the meeting with the delegate participated the mayors of Gondomar, Paco Ferreira; A Guarda, Antonio Lomba; Baiona, Carlos Gómez; O Rosal, Ánxela Fernández; Tui, Enrique Cabaleiro and Tomiño, Sandra González.
