The subdelegate of the Government in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, today highlighted the social impact on the province of Lugo of the revaluation of pensions by the Government of Pedro Sánchez, a measure that represented an increase of 9 million euros in the payroll paid in January to pensioners in the province.
“Today there are many Galician pensioners who are seeing the revaluation of their benefits reflected in their bank account. An increase of 8.5% with which the Spanish Government guarantees the purchasing power of these people in a context marked by high inflation,” said Isabel Rodríguez during a visit this morning to the Social Security offices of Lugo, accompanied by the provincial director, Juan José Rodríguez Gude.
In the case of the province of Lugo, there are 113,849 people who benefit from this increase, to reach an average pension of 914 euros, which means about 77 euros more per month than last year. In Lugo as a whole, this increase represents a total annual pension outlay of 104 million euros, some 9 million more than last year.
“This is possible thanks to the current government’s shielding of the purchasing power of pensioners, since, had the revaluation of 0.25% per annum set by the PP in 2013 been applied, the average retirement pension would have risen less than 50 euros per annum. That is, with the Government of Pedro Sánchez, pensions increase in the province 77 euros, while with the PP the increase would not reach 4 euros,” said the subdelegate.
As a result, the average pension in Galicia stands at 1,015.78 euros. In the case of retirement pensions, which represent almost two-thirds of the total (62.8%), the average amount amounts to 1,161 euros. Thus, since the arrival of Pedro Sánchez to the Government, the revaluation exceeds 25%, since in 2018 the average retirement pension was located in Galicia at 927.78 euros.
“This Government fulfills its word, following the same line as in recent years, dignifying pensions,” added the deputy delegate who also stressed the decisive importance of pensions in the province of Lugo and the impact on the economy of the territory, “which help strengthen equality and the welfare state of Lugo’s neighbors.”
