The government delegate attends the opening of the humanization works of Ricardo Carapeto Avenue, in Badajoz
The government delegate in Extremadura, José Luis Quintana, attended this morning the opening of the humanization works of Ricardo Carapeto Avenue in Badajoz. The work has meant an investment of 1.4 million euros that has allowed, among other measures, to build 2,100 m2 of pedestrian sidewalks.
The humanization works have been managed by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility. The renovated section is located on Avenida Ricardo Carapeto Zambrano between km 1.2, at the junction with Eugenio García Estop Street, and km 1.5, at the intersection with the BA-20 road, in the city of Badajoz. The intervention is included in the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR), within the voyage humanization program that allocates an investment of 105 million euros from NextGenerationEU funds to promote a more sustainable, inclusive and accessible urban environment.
The priority objective of the intervention has been to improve the urban environment with a special focus on the most vulnerable users, such as pedestrians, people with reduced mobility and cyclists. To this end, the reordering and expansion of the road section has been carried out, including the duplication of the road and the adaptation of the road to a more functional, safe and homogeneous configuration with the adjacent sections.
Among the works carried out, the following stand out:
- The creation of pedestrian itineraries that promote active and sustainable mobility. A total of 2,100 m2 of pedestrian sidewalks have been executed.
- The provision of parking areas on both margins, both in parallel and in battery, including three spaces adapted for people with reduced mobility, in accordance with current accessibility regulations.
- The improvement of safety at crossings and the urban integration of the road, favoring a more balanced use of public space.
These works represent a significant advance in the process of urban transformation of Badajoz, aimed at creating a more accessible, sustainable and people-centred city. This reflects the Ministry’s commitment to the improvement of public space and the effective implementation of NextGenerationEU funds, which allow the promotion of projects that improve the quality of life and strengthen social cohesion.
The remodeled section will be ceded to the City of Badajoz in accordance with the provisions of Order TMA/1160/2021, of October 8, which establishes the framework for the transfer of urban roads from the State Road Network to the municipalities.
