Extremadura remains the safest autonomous community in Spain with a rate of 33 crimes per thousand inhabitants in the first quarter of 2025, according to the data collected in the Crime Balance prepared by the Ministry of the Interior. This rate places Extremadura with 17.2 crimes less per 1,000 inhabitants than the national average.
The number of known crimes during the first quarter of 2025 stood at 8,768, that is, 125 more known crimes than during the same period of the previous year; which represents a slight increase of 1.4% on the data of 2024.
With respect to the typology of crimes, there is a change of trend in the cybercrime, which increases by 15.5% with respect to the first quarter of the previous year. In particular, computer scams increase by 13.2% and the rest of illegal acts committed through the Internet increase by 25.5%.
This rise in digital crime highlights the work of the State Security Forces and Corps to ensure security in cybernetic environments and highlights the need for citizens to be aware of the need to take the necessary precautions while browsing the networks.
For its part, the set of crimes against heritage has experienced a slight increase of 0.1% between January and March 2025. Theft has decreased by 9%; robberies with force in things by 15.2% and robberies with violence or intimidation have increased by 28.4%, although this type of crime is the least common in this classification.
In the case of crimes for drug trafficking the same rate of the previous year is maintained, with just one more crime than in the same period last year. In crimes against road safety an increase of 16.1% is detected, breaking the downward trend of the last quarters.
For their part, the crimes typified by ill-treatment continue in a downward trend and enter into negative values. In the first quarter of 2025, the State Security Forces and Corps became aware of 391 crimes of this nature, which represents 4.63% less than the previous year.
The largest drop by crime typologies occurred in the sexual crimes, with a drop of 27%. Among them, sexual assaults with penetration fell by 40.7% while sexual crimes related to minors and disabled persons fell by 81.8%, going from 33 known crimes in the first quarter of 2024 to 6 in the same period of 2025.
For its part, the crimes related to the child pornography go from 2 to 8 in year-on-year terms, registering an increase of 300%. This last section includes, for example, recent police operations at the national level against the storage and distribution of child pornography.
