The government delegate in Extremadura, José Luis Quintana, announced today in Badajoz new measures to promote the employment of migrants in situations of social vulnerability. This initiative aims to alleviate the labor problems existing in different sectors of the productive fabric of Extremadura.
The ACCEM, Provivienda and Progestion organizations, entities that work with migrants in the region through the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, have participated in the presentation. The meeting was attended by representatives of Agri-Food Cooperatives of Extremadura and AFRUEX, of the agri-food sector; the Chambers of Commerce of Badajoz and Cáceres, COEBA, CIEM and COEPCA for the business sector; FECONS and PYMECON, of the construction sector; and Extrefor as a representative of companies in the forestry sector.
Quintana has highlighted the possibilities of this program, which is carried out by different NGOs and the Government of Spain, and which allows the incorporation into the labor market of migrants in a situation of protection, who meet all the requirements to be hired.
Being able to fill this labor supply also requires the commitment of the contracting entrepreneur to guarantee a decent home, facilitate the movement from that home to the workplace and, finally, offer legalized contracts. “With this intermediation that we do from the Government Delegation between NGOs and the business fabric of the region, we take a step forward to promote job insertion thanks to the training and job orientation programs that are being developed by these entities that work with migrants. We try to offer a solution to labor problems in some sectors, but to do this it is necessary to make effective the fulfillment of each of the rights that these migrants have as people.”
The government delegate has recalled that these organizations work with people who are applicants for protection, which requires more global accompaniment and advice to also ensure their training and preparation for entry into the labor market. “What we have done is to guarantee a series of collaboration mechanisms between a public administration, social entities and the private sector so that it is possible to facilitate their real and effective access to the labor market for these people in conditions of dignity, providing the social accompaniment they require.” In Extremadura there are already similar experiences that have facilitated the hiring of 15 migrants, through a company in the energy sector, to work in two locations: Almaraz and Torrecillas de la Tiesa.
