The government delegate in Extremadura, José Luis Quintana, participated today in the Finca "El Toril" in the III Conference "Women in the primary sector of Extremadura", organized by El Periódico Extremadura and Caja Rural de Extremadura, where he highlighted the fundamental role of Extremadura women in the development of projects linked to the primary sector.
During his speech, Quintana pointed out that the primary sector represents about 8 percent of regional GDP and that agricultural income has grown in recent decades by 50 percent. “The economic and social moment we are going through is the best in our history. Now is the time to take advantage of this situation and work hard to build a development model in Extremadura that guarantees the quality of life and the future of future generations, where the role of women in the sector is fundamental,” he said.
The delegate also stressed the importance of eliminating the gender gap that still persists, especially in a sector that, although historically masculinized, is experiencing a positive change. In this regard, Quintana has highlighted that 40 percent of the workers affiliated to the Agrarian Regime are women and that 33 percent of the beneficiaries of CAP aid are also women. “There is still a lot to do, but right now, you are a key part of the whole industry,” he said.
The government delegate concluded his speech by sending an optimistic message to all those present: “Let us make an effort to convey to the young women of Extremadura the love and attraction that all of us here have for our countryside.”
