The Government delegate in Extremadura, José Luis Quintana, accompanied by the Superior Chief of the National Police of Extremadura, Elisa Fariñas and the Mayor of Villanueva del Fresno, Ramón Díaz, have today presented the first Comprehensive Document Vehicle (VIDOC) of the National Police that enters into service in Extremadura.
The Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, announced on October 21, 2024, the deployment of 80 Integral Documentation Vehicles to speed up the issuance of ID cards and passports in places far from large urban areas. These vehicles have been developed within the Digital Identity Plan of the General Directorate of the Police to improve the effectiveness, efficiency and accessibility of digital public services to citizens and companies, having been financed by the European Union through the Next Generation funds of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. Of these 80 vehicles, three will be operational in Extremadura from the offices of Badajoz, Cáceres and Don Benito
During the presentation of this service in Villanueva del Fresno, the government delegate in Extremadura highlighted the incorporation of these vans as they allow to serve a greater number of citizens living where they live, bringing the National Police and public services to all corners of the region, mainly to municipalities in rural environments.
The objective of this vehicle is to speed up the issuance of ID cards and passports in small municipalities without the need to go to a physical office for printing, which saves time and resources.
The VIDOCs provide two improvements, the first is the ability to issue a document in just ten minutes, so citizens will not need to go through the three usual procedures so far in mobile units. The second novelty is the possibility of issuing passports, since this document is made exclusively in the Document Units, so the VIDOCs will facilitate and equalize in possibilities to the population centers that do not have National Police Commissioners.
