Extremadura remains the safest autonomous community in Spain with a rate of 33.5 crimes per thousand inhabitants in the third quarter of 2024, according to the data collected in the Crime Balance prepared by the Ministry of the Interior. This rate is 18.8 crimes less than the national average for every thousand inhabitants in twelve months.
The latest report shows that crimes stagnate in Extremadura for the second consecutive quarter and break the upward trend of the last three years. The number of known crimes during the first nine months of 2024 has stood at 25,993, which represents a minimum increase of 0.1% on the data of the same period of 2023.
The trend detected in the previous two quarters of decline in terms of computer scams (-4.1%) is maintained, although the total number of cybercrimes increases slightly (1.9%).
Data from the third quarter confirm the 2024 trend in the decline in property crime (-3.1%); especially theft (-5.8%) and violent robberies (-5.4%).
In the case of drug trafficking offences, the decrease has been 8.5 per cent and road safety offences have also decreased by 3 per cent.
On the other hand, the number of crimes characterized by ill-treatment continues to increase, although as in recent quarters, this is a slight increase, with an increase of 5.4%. The largest increase by type of crime has occurred in sexual crimes, with an increase of 24.0%; highlighting above all sexual assaults with penetration, with an increase of 37.5% and sexual crimes related to minors.
