The government delegate in Extremadura, José Luis Quintana, together with the president of the Provincial Council of Cáceres, Miguel Ángel Morales and the president of the High Court of Justice, Maria Félix Tena, participated today in the headquarters of the Provincial Council in the inauguration of the training days on the eradication of violence against women aimed at the mayors, mayors and technical staff of the municipalities of the province of Cáceres and organized by the Government Delegation in Extremadura and the Provincial Council of Cáceres.
Quintana highlighted the collaboration between the administrations to fight violence against women, “and our responsibility as public managers, is to work using all the resources and efforts to prevent, raise awareness and protect the victims of male violence and minors, who unfortunately are also victims of this violence” said the delegate.
During his speech, Quintana explained that, in Extremadura, at the moment, there are 2,500 women included in the Viogen system as active cases and that in one way or another they need police monitoring or protection, which he described as “unacceptable in a society that wants to be considered developed”. In the same way, the delegate wanted to remember that since there are records in Spain 1,248 women have lost their lives at the hands of their partners or ex-partners; 40 of them this year, and ten minors who have also been killed in cases of gender violence against their mother.
In this regard, the Government delegate has explained some of the resources that have been put in place by the Government of Spain, such as the VioGen system, the specialized teams of both the National Police and the Civil Guard; the resources for the protection and social reintegration of victims; the constant work of training and information of the units of violence against women of the Government Delegation and all the possibilities provided by the State Pact.
Finally, Quintana has encouraged all municipalities to join the Viogen system because local administration plays a key role. “Everything you do in this regard is necessary, especially in raising awareness among young people. We have to change the targeting of the victims to the public and social targeting of the aggressors; we have to mentalise the citizens of a truism: the victims are the victims and the aggressors are the aggressors. The day we are able to achieve this social transformation, we will have greatly reduced this serious problem that we now have,” concluded Quintana.
