The government delegate in Extremadura, José Luis Quintana, visited today the municipality of Hoyos in Cáceres where he held a meeting with mayors and mayors of the region of Sierra de Gata. At the meeting, held at the headquarters of the Community of Municipalities Sierra de Gata, Quintana has met the demands raised by the municipalities of the area in management areas related to the General Administration of the State.
The president of the community and mayor of Hernán Pérez, Pablo Iglesias, has transferred to the delegate of the Government a document with the demands of the municipalities with measures that help to improve the socioeconomic situation of the region. Among the suggestions are proposals that call for greater attention to the beekeeping sector and the activity linked to mountain farming, as well as energy adaptation in small towns or specific taxation for rural areas. Likewise, they request the promotion of measures to support entrepreneurial activity in municipalities under 3,000 inhabitants or the provision of greater funds from the PROPHA. Finally, the mayors have requested the mediation of the government delegate for issues such as improving the offer in training centers to meet the needs of professional profiles in small municipalities, as well as actions that contribute to improve the models of forest management and provide support to municipalities so that they have means to repair infrastructures in situations of natural disasters, such as forest fires.
Quintana is committed to studying the proposals and transferring them to the competent State agencies. “At a time like the present, and after the situation experienced in regions by DANA in the Valencian Community, Castilla La Mancha, Catalonia and Andalusia, we must be aware of the consequences that the adverse effects of climatology can cause in urban environments, with a greater incidence if possible when we talk about municipalities in rural environments. Hence the importance of meetings like this one to listen actively and assess how we can improve collaboration between administrations”.
Finally, Quintana has highlighted the important evolution experienced in the Sierra de Gata based on a development model based on the primary sector and tourism, as well as reiterating the commitment of the Government of Spain to continue investing and improving the quality of life of the people of Extremadura. “Our philosophy is to collaborate and work together with the administrations in the territory so that we contribute to solving problems because it is what the citizens demand of us as public managers,” concluded the government delegate.
The meeting was also attended by the deputy delegate of the Government in Cáceres, José Antonio García, and the president of the Association for the Integral Development of the Sierra de Gata, Luis Mariano Martín.
