The delegate of the Government in Extremadura, José Luis Quintana, has presided, together with the Superior Chief of the National Police in Extremadura, Maria Elisa Fariñas, over the acts of Los Angeles Custodios, patrons of the National Police, on the Paseo de San Francisco de Badajoz, where he highlighted the effectiveness of the agents in the fight against crime in Extremadura.
In this regard, Quintana has affirmed that the National Police has been able to adapt at all times to the new types of crime through its training, preparation and specialization of the members of the Corps. “We all share the concern about the statistical increase in cybercrime and especially that which can affect the privacy and integrity of minors and the heritage of the elderly, but we must give citizens the confidence necessary to feel in their daily lives that the National Police is there to protect and help them.”
During his speech, the government delegate explained that, according to the latest data published by the Ministry of the Interior, 23.8 percent of the crimes committed in Extremadura have been cybercrimes and has placed great emphasis on putting the necessary resources and filters in place to reduce the influence of minors on sexual crimes.
Likewise, Quintana has referred to the typology of crimes that affect women. “It is not possible that Spain should continue to endure the deaths of 35 women this year at the hands of their partners or ex-partners. The scourge continues to add victims and we must be clear that we will stand firm against the aggressors, and support the victims.”
The government delegate wanted to deny the connection between immigrants and crime by setting an example of the crimes in Extremadura. “In 2023, there were 35,000 known crimes in the region, more than half of which were cleared up and 9,254 citizens were arrested or investigated as criminals. Of these criminals only 10 percent were foreigners, that is to say 90 percent are Spanish. Of that 10 percent of non-Spanish offenders, exactly half are European; that is, only 2 percent of all offenders in the region are African, 2.5 percent are American, and 0.3 percent of the total are Asian,” Quintana explained.
Finally, the delegate insisted on the commitment of the Government of Spain to provide the National Police with means and resources to guarantee their rights in the fulfillment of their obligations, and an example of this commitment are the 35,000 places offered for the State Security Forces and Corps, thus reversing the employment freeze in previous times.
