Extremadura remains the safest autonomous community in Spain with a rate of 33.5 crimes per thousand inhabitants in the first quarter of 2024, according to the data collected in the Crime Balance prepared by the Ministry of the Interior. This rate is 18.2 crimes less than the national average.
The latest report shows that crimes stagnate in Extremadura and break the upward trend of the last three years. The number of known crimes during the first quarter of 2024 stood at 8,624, which represents a minimum increase of 0.2% on the data of the same period of 2023. It is significant that, for the first time in the last decade, there is a change in the upward trend of cybercrime, with a decrease of 5.3%, and a significant decrease in computer scams that have been reduced by 9.5%.
In the first quarter of 2024, all crimes against property have also decreased, especially robberies with violence, which have decreased by 30% and thefts, which continue with their downward trend, this time with a decrease of 4%. In the case of drug trafficking offences, these have decreased by 26.3% and those related to road safety have also experienced a decrease of 25%.
On the other hand, the number of crimes characterized by ill-treatment continues to increase, although as in recent quarters, this is a slight increase, with an increase of 4%. The largest increase by type of crime has occurred in sexual crimes, with an increase of 44.2%; highlighting above all sexual assaults with penetration, with an increase of 46.2% and sexual crimes related to minors.
