The government delegate in Extremadura, José Luis Quintana, visited today the town of La Albuera to participate in the commemorative events of May 16, 1811 on the occasion of the confrontation against the invading Napoleonic troops. In his speech, Quintana wanted to recognize that, at a time like the current one marked by international war conflicts, an Extremadura municipality stands out for insisting on defending peace, freedom, harmony and the development of peoples.
For this reason, he has insisted on the importance of “claiming peace”, raising awareness about it and acting to achieve it. In his speech at the commemoration of the Battle of La Albuera, the government delegate wanted to send a message to the young people, who are also an active part of this celebration, to ask them to flee “from those who speak of hatred, from those who only propose violence to resolve conflicts; listen to those who make you understand the different and, please, help us to build a world without wars.”
In that sense, Quintana has asked that, in a period in which some pretend that “we forget part of our history”, it is very important for the youngest to understand the importance of knowing our past; and to learn from the mistakes and also from the successes committed.
The government delegate has taken advantage of his participation in this event to recognize the important work carried out by the Association of Parents of People with Autism in Badajoz, APNABA, an entity that this year has received the Adalid Prize.
