The government delegate in Extremadura, José Luis Quintana, visited Santa Amalia today where he participated in the opening ceremony of the 18th edition of its Multisectorial Fair. In her speech, Quintana has valued this type of event because it has become more than just a commercial event by consolidating itself as a meeting point where entrepreneurs, entrepreneurs, farmers and cooperative sector meet to show the best of our land and promote commercial and cultural exchange.
The government delegate stressed that the exhibition has as its thematic reference a crop such as tomato, highlighting the link with two industrial projects that have favored the social and economic development of Santa Amalia. "The tomato is still linked to the future of this land. Therefore, I encourage you to continue developing initiatives such as this with which we must be able to continue moving forward without abandoning our roots in the social, in the traditional and in what the cooperative model provides."
Quintana has pointed out that the Spanish agricultural sector is strategic because of its economic and social relevance but, above all, because it guarantees the food security of the population by supplying the most essential products, food. In this regard, he recalled that the Government of Spain has a firm commitment to the primary sector and its associated industry. Since 2022, the Ministry of Agriculture has allocated €4 billion for the primary sector. Of these, EUR 1.38 billion has been in direct aid, EUR 2.8 billion for the modernisation of irrigation, EUR 6.8 billion through the CAP.
As a sign of this commitment, the government delegate recalled that in March “it has been approved that more than 8,000 farmers in Extremadura from industrial drylands, rice and tomato receive extraordinary aid from the State of 15.6 million euros to compensate for the difficulties arising from previous months.
