The Government Delegation in Extremadura has presented the awards “Women who break up”, in commemoration of March 8, International Women’s Day, where the government delegate has highlighted the significant progress of women in society since there is democracy “every time women advance in rights and equality, we advance all”.
During his speech, Quintana explained that when we talk about assaults or murders, it is very difficult to draw positive conclusions, but “I think that in Spain we are doing things well. We have the legislative resources and the resources for help and protection, but that gender gap still exists in many areas of our society.”
The third edition of “Women Who Break Up” has today recognized the work and trajectory of two women from different fields, including: María Elisa Fariñas Abella, Superior Chief of the National Police in Extremadura and Elsa Tortonda Ropero, winner of La Voz 2023. A recognition dedicated to Extremadura women highlighted for breaking with traditional or masculinized stereotypes.
“Today we have recognized two very different women, but also with many things in common: An artist and a policeman. You have both been able to break with prejudices, with preconceived ideas and you are pushing everyone else towards a fairer and more egalitarian society,” said the government delegate.
Finally, Quintana congratulated the two winners for breaking down barriers and achieving their goals, “thanks to the fact that we have women like you, this society is moving towards a better future.”
