The government delegate in Extremadura, José Luis Quintana, took office today in Badajoz in which he announced that the government delegation will propose regular meetings to parties, unions, organizations and institutions to address all issues related to infrastructure in Extremadura.
These are regular meetings to talk about the “real solutions to the problems that arise, but also to make demands, ask for accounts or make proposals”, explained the government delegate, who was present at this event with the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente.
“The doors are going to be open to everyone, no one is going to be forced to come, but we all have a responsibility, an obligation to fulfil and a trust that the citizens have placed in us to give a full account. Our obligation of public service has no other reason to be and we must be equal to those that Extremadura deserves,” he said.
For Quintana, who said he faced this position with enthusiasm and responsibility, there will be two axes that will guide his management as a representative of the Government of Spain: public service and general interest.
“Public service because we do not forget that from the institutions, from management and political decisions, it is from where the life of citizens is improved. It is the best way to change the reality of things and that duty is the goal of any public servant,” he said.
The government delegate recalled his link with municipal policy, “from this watchtower that is the city council, I assure you that I have learned to see how important each of the citizens of your municipality is; that each one has its history, its circumstances, its problems and its joys. And that they, the citizens, all as a whole, but also each one with its peculiarities, must be the center of all our actions. And for this I offer my help and collaboration to the FEMPEX and its newly appointed President.”
Gender violence
José Luis Quintana also spoke about gender violence and said in this regard that the delegation will ask for the help and collaboration of the big cities so that with the signatures of the corresponding agreements of the Viogen system, “we help and protect those vulnerable women who need the different administrations to collaborate with institutional respect.”
“We live in a democratic society that neither can nor should condone hatred, nor the attitudes of those who promote it. Hatred is not answered with hatred, I believe in the search for what unites us and in the joint work of all. I think we all have to think about the future,” he said.
He also highlighted the challenge of social dialogue as one of its objectives because in his opinion, “the support of civil society, employers’ associations and trade unions is necessary. When the administration is able to reconcile positions between the different social agents, we all win. The best way to achieve economic objectives is to have a peace that must come together with social cooperation between business associations, trade unions and public administration.”
He also addressed the Security Forces and Corps highlighting the work they do in the region. “I have been able to verify that the relationship with the State Security Forces and Corps is going to be very easy for me because it is not in vain that we have equipment that guarantees for many years, sufficient tranquility to live in the safest region in all of Spain and the safest in Europe,” he said in this regard.
Infrastructure
José Luis Quintana also referred to the chapter of infrastructures to which he devoted special attention, in this regard he claimed the importance of having them taken care of as they are necessary for the region.
“Look, we’re worried about the infrastructure in Extremadura and Extremadura. It is not a question of the last 4 or 8 years. The government of Spain has passed government of all political colors and the responsibility is more than shared. But the reality is that there is a pending debt with Extremadura,” he said.
In this regard, he stressed the importance of the presence of the minister of the branch in his inauguration. “It is no accident that the Minister of Transport is with us today in this event. It is very significant of how the Government of Spain sets priorities. And the infrastructure is for the people of Extremadura and Extremadura.”
Given that the infrastructure is of significant concern to the people of Extremadura, since today “the day of this inauguration, he has already announced that in this Government Delegation in Extremadura, he will propose the holding of periodic meetings to address how the infrastructure is in Extremadura”. They will be meetings to talk, “to give real solutions to the problems that arise, but also to make demands, ask for accounts or make proposals,” he said.
For the government delegate, the Green and Digital Revolution will be part of his objectives in the performance of his office. In his opinion “it can be an aid to the fight against depopulation, for this you have to take into account the municipalities and of course the Federation of Municipalities and Province of Extremadura. FEMPEX”.
Finally, José Luis Quintana said that since his appointment, “I knew immediately that it will be easy to represent the Government of Spain; a government with whose political project I feel absolutely identified and committed and of which I have no doubt that history will describe as one of the most committed to Extremadura, but the one that most”.
In his speech he had words of thanks and recognition for the work of his predecessors, Yolanda García Seco and Francisco Mendoza, also for the former presidents Juan Carlos Rodríguez Ibarra and José Antonio Monago and especially for the former president Guillermo Fernández Vara.
“Guillermo, we have a parallel life, and people say that we are equal in moderation, even if that is not fashionable. The legacy of Extremadura that you leave has the foundations to achieve the goals we have dreamed of. You can be like you, vindicating with the Spanish Government, but that’s not why you have to disrespect anyone. Guillermo, I need you, I have to keep asking you,” he said.
