Volunteers of the National Emergency Radio Network (REMER) of Extremadura were recognized today with a diploma in the Delegation of the Government of Extremadura for the work done, in some cases, for more than 35 years. The delegate of the Government in Extremadura, Francisco Alejandro Mendoza, the subdelegate of the Government in Badajoz, Maribel Cortés, the secretary of the Fernández Gutiérrez Delegation and the head of Civil Protection, Indalecio Rodríguez, were in charge of delivering them.
In Extremadura, the REMER is made up of 132 volunteers, whose work was recognized by the subdelegate of the Government to whom he addressed highlighting his personal involvement “through an effective and supportive citizen participation”.
“From here I would like to thank you for your generous and altruistic vocation of public service by voluntarily putting your time and your own teams at the service of citizen security. Your contribution is fundamental and indispensable for the functioning of Civil Protection in the event of emergencies,” he added.
“I want to stress that in these times the value of the common has erupted before us as what it is: the best resource to preserve and transform society in favor of peace, freedom, security and the well-being of people in short and most important. And if there is an environment in which the common, the public and solidarity, in addition to generosity, come together, it is in the field of civil protection. For me, and I believe that for the rest of society, all of you who form the great family of civil protection in Spain, are true heroes; but in addition, you are essential.”
The National Emergency Radio Network (REMER), created in the 1980s, is composed of more than 3,500 accredited radio amateurs linked voluntarily and altruistically to the General Directorate of Civil Protection and Emergencies of the Ministry of the Interior and constitutes a tool for effective citizen participation and solidarity with the National Civil Protection System.
