The delegate of the Government of the Junta de Extremadura, Francisco Alejandro Mendoza Sánchez, accompanied by the president of the Guadiana Hydrographic Confederation, Samuel Moraleda, visited the sanitation and purification works that are being carried out in the municipalities of Montijo-Puebla de la Calzada, Torremejía and Villagonzalo.
The sanitation and purification works of Montijo-Puebla de la Calzada, with an investment of more than 20 million euros, will improve the functioning of the sanitation network, by expanding its capacity, in view of the forecasting of urban developments in the area, and improve the quality of the effluent treatment for the flows and volumes of water of the Wastewater Treatment Station (EDAR), to serve the population growth predicted and estimated at about 26,000 inhabitants. The set of actions includes the construction of a new WWTP, which will guarantee the complete treatment of the urban wastewater of Montijo and Puebla de la Calzada and a new storm tank, prior to the WWTP, which will allow the retention of the volume of water that exceeds the treatment capacity of the latter.
In addition, the capacity of the main collector network of Montijo and Puebla de la Calzada will be adapted, with the elimination of flood reliefs to the channels of the Arroyos Cabrillas and Baldios or Corniquebrada. These works will improve the quality of the discharges to the Guadiana River and will involve an investment of more than 20 million euros.
In the case of Torremejia and Villagonzalo, the actions are part of a joint investment of more than 17 million euros, which will allow to improve the sanitation and purification of the municipalities of Villagonzalo, Torremejía, La Roca de la Sierra, La Nava de Santiago and Nogales.
Specifically, the works to be executed will consist of the construction of new wastewater treatment stations and the incorporation of rigorous treatments in the towns of Villagonzalo for an amount of 3,399,769.67 euros, Roca de la sierra with 4,182,139.01 euros, Nava de Santiago with an investment of 3,304,211.78 euros and Nogales with a cost of 2,482,940.00 euros.
