The delegate of the Government in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, has presided over the conversation 50 years of democracy for LGTBI people, in which activists of this group have narrated their experiences during this period. This is the case of Antoni Ruiz, survivor of Franco’s repression; Olga Ramos, activist and feminist; Rosa Gisbert, referent of social activism; and Gonzalo Carbonell, representing Lambda.
“LGBTI rights are human rights and human rights are not negotiated,” said Bernabé. Today, he added, “we raise the flag of Pride as an act of affirmation and inalienable principles.” “Pride is not a slogan, it is a political tool and it is a shared story,” said the delegate. In this sense, the claim of Pride “is realized at a key moment in which, faced with the advance of hate speeches, we must remember that everything conquered becomes essential”.
Bernabé recalled that this year marks the 50th anniversary of democracy in Spain and also the 20th anniversary of the approval of marriage equality, “a law that forever changed the lives of thousands of people and made our country an international benchmark.” The Government of Spain, has added, “continues to take firm steps” with the approval of the Law for the real and effective equality of trans and LGTBI people or with the Royal Decree that obliges companies to have equality plans and protocols against LGTBIphobia, among others. All in all, “there is still a future to be explored and always to fight. A future where democracy is not measured every four years by the ballot box, but is exercised in real equality.”
The institutional acts on the occasion of Pride began this morning with the display of the LGBTI Pride flag on the facade of the Government Delegation by the Government delegate, Pilar Bernabé, and the Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities, Diana Morant. Later, Bernabé held a meeting with different representatives of the collective, to whom he conveyed “the commitment of the Government of Spain, which will not allow a step backwards either in equality or in LGTBI rights”.
