The Government Delegation in the Valencian Community joins the claim of Pride and defends, as stated in the institutional declaration of the Ministry of Equality, “the real and effective equality of LGTBI people”. The Government of Spain, as indicated in the text ratified by the Council of Ministers on June 24, “defends the principles of freedom and dignity” of LGBTI people. In this way, “LGBTI Pride is the pride of our country.” For this reason, “the Government of Spain continues to fight so that no LGBTI person has to suffer violence, fear or discrimination.”
This year also marks the 20th anniversary of the Equal Marriage Act, “which served as an international benchmark, driving the recognition of LGBTI rights in other countries,” and also the 10th anniversary of the death of Pedro Zerolo, “tireless civil rights fighter,” a figure who marked a “before and after” in “LGBTI visibility in politics,” as the text indicates.
The institutional acts have begun with the display of the LGBTI Pride flag on the facade of the Government Delegation, by the Government delegate, Pilar Bernabé, and the Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities, Diana Morant. This afternoon the Government delegate will hold a meeting with the collective and, later, there will be the conversation 50 years of democracy for LGTBI people, in which they will participate: Antoni Ruiz, survivor of Franco’s repression; Olga Ramos, activist and feminist; Rosa Gisbert, referent of social activism; and Gonzalo Carbonell, representing Lambda.
