The General Directorate of Traffic foresees a total of 2,021,184 long-distance journeys on the roads of the Valencian Community during the special traffic operation Semana Santa. At the national level, the number of planned displacements reaches 15,840,000. Compared to last year’s data, an increase in mobility of 2.47% is expected, both nationally and at the level of the Valencian Community, which is one of the communities that will receive the most displacements during this period.
The delegate of the Government in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, who has visited the offices of the Traffic Management Center of Levante together with the provincial head of Traffic of Valencia, Pilar Funez, has reported on the characteristics of this special operation that is divided into two phases.
The 1st phase takes place in the Valencian Community from 12:00 hours for traffic regulation purposes and at 15:00 hours for accident accounting purposes today Friday, April 11, until 24:00 hours on Sunday, April 13, which corresponds to the weekend preceding the Holy Week.
For its part, the 2nd phase will take place in the Valencian Community from 12:00 hours for traffic regulation purposes and at 15:00 hours for accident accounting purposes on Wednesday, April 16, until 24:00 hours on Monday, April 21.
The government delegate to the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, has called on drivers to “take extreme precautions and respect the traffic regulations”. Barnabas has called for “above all prudence” and to avoid distractions and has warned that “speed controls and alcohol and drug consumption will be increased”.
Holy Week is the period in which there is a significant exodus of vehicles from the urban centers caused by the festivities of these dates, school and university holidays, and by a multitude of religious acts of strong popular roots. For this reason, the General Directorate of Traffic implements the special measures of regulation, management and surveillance.

Maximum utilization of available resources
Some 850 members of the Civil Guard Traffic Group, staff of the Traffic Management Centre in Levante, helicopter patrol and personnel responsible for maintaining equipment and installing road measures will pay special attention to the traffic incidents that occur during these movements, especially in order to achieve greater fluidity and security. In addition, there will be the collaboration of the local police for access to the large towns and crossings where they exercise surveillance.
