The delegate of the Government in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, has presided together with the mayor of Sagunto, Dario Moreno, the events organized by this municipality to commemorate the bicentenary of the National Police that was held last year and that were postponed by the dana.
In this event, the delegate highlighted the work carried out by the agents of the National Police to “safeguard the population in the dana”. “The 4,316 women and men of the National Police in the province of Valencia have not hesitated for a moment to offer help, empathy and close treatment to the people who have lost everything,” said Bernabé.
In addition, he highlighted “the capacity of the National Police to adapt to new challenges and new types of crime such as cybercrime”. He also acknowledged that “Spain is at the forefront in the fight against the hatred hidden behind the anonymity of social networks”. For all these reasons, he pointed out that the National Police is “the shield that has to guarantee the rights and freedoms of society if we want it to remain plural, diverse and democratic”. And in this regard, he has highlighted the role of the Police in the fight against gender violence.
Bernabé has said that at present the Valencian Community “is in historical figures of police officers, since the Government has reversed, with the new calls, the lack of replacement of agents”. At the moment, there are about 7,500 agents of the National Police who work in the Valencian Community, although “the objective is to continue increasing that figure to cover all the needs that the Superior Headquarters marks”. With all this, according to the latest crime balance of the Ministry of the Interior, conventional crime has decreased by 1.8% in the province of Valencia and 1.5% in the Valencian Community, Bernabé recalled.
On the occasion of the Bicentenary, the city of Sagunto has dedicated a boulevard to the National Police, while imposing its golden tie in recognition of the task accomplished.
