The delegate of the Government in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, visited today, together with the mayor of Cullera (Valencia), Jordi Mayor, the beach of Marenyet in the municipality. It is one of the areas of the Valencian coast where for a month work has been carried out to clean the reeds accumulated after the damage of October 29. “It is an example of how effective public-private collaboration is and the good result of collaboration between institutions so that beaches, such as Marenyet, recover their appearance before the flood.”
In this regard, Bernabé recalled that “the Government of Spain is collaborating in different ways with the municipalities in the cleaning of their sandy areas: either through the extraordinary contract of one million euros elaborated by the Demarcation of Costas to help in the cleaning of the affected beaches; or by paying the expenses of the emergency contracts that the municipalities need to carry out to undertake this work. And Cullera is in this second case, with a two-month contract, for an amount of half a million euros that will be paid by the government and that will recover 11.5 kilometers of beach.”
“It is important to highlight the agility and diligence to seek solutions from the City of Cullera compared to that of larger municipalities. Cullera with a lower monetary capacity, with a municipal budget of 42 million euros, has not hesitated to avail itself of emergency contracts. Some municipalities with more capacity, such as València, with 1 billion euros of municipal budget has not contemplated”.
On the other hand, Bernabé has stressed that “right now the priority of the Government of Spain is urban beaches, for a matter of health and subsequently the cleaning of natural beaches will be undertaken. Therefore, the municipalities also have the option of making the emergency contracts, which the government pays, to expedite these works.”
The delegate insisted that “this Government continues and will continue to collaborate with the emergency management in all the clean-up work in which it is required, the necessary time and with the necessary means to attend to the municipalities affected by the damage. As is being done on the beaches, not only here, but also in those of Tavernes de la Valldigna, Sueca or the area of Pinedo, among others”.
“Or as it also continues to work on the cleaning of municipal landfills and campsites, where from the first minute the Government made available to the emergency management the troops of the public company TRAGSA for these tasks. And where the municipalities can also make the necessary emergency contracts, which will also be paid in full by the Government of Spain, which is and will be next to the Valencians to go together in the necessary reconstruction”, concluded the delegate of the Government, Pilar Bernabé.
