The subdelegate of the Government in Valencia, José Rodríguez, assures that the Demarcation of Costas, dependent on the Government of Spain, “is acting as quickly and effectively as possible to recover the state of the beaches prior to the dana”. Specifically, the Coastal Demarcation is currently working in Tavernes and Sueca and plans, before February, to continue with the beaches of València.
Rodríguez clarifies that, according to article 115 of the Coastal Law, “the competence to clean and maintain the health of the beaches is exclusively municipal”, however, given the magnitude of the disaster, “the Government of Spain participates in cleaning and collaborates with the affected municipalities”. In fact, the Coastal Demarcation has prepared an extraordinary contract, worth one million euros, to help clean the beaches of the towns affected by the dana.
The priority of the Government of Spain is urban beaches, for a matter of health and will undertake the cleaning of natural beaches later.
The deputy delegate also recalled that “municipalities can carry out the emergency contracts that are necessary and that will be paid in full by the Government of Spain”.
