The Government Delegation in the Valencian Community has held today, 25 November, an institutional event on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
In this act, the 15-year-old girl murdered in Orihuela and the victims of the DANA in Valencia have been commemorated. In fact, of the 7,551 active cases in the province of Valencia within the VioGén System, a total of 3,123 cases correspond to victims residing in the municipalities affected by DANA. Women who “now live a more complex situation due to the effects of the harsh storm” as recalled in the manifesto read by the president of Alana, Chelo Álvarez. It has also been stressed that “the Ministry of Equality, through the Government Delegation against Gender Violence, carries out daily monitoring of the victims in the area affected by DANA”.
In addition, through the involvement of the State Security Forces and Bodies and other agencies, it is about “ensuring attention and response to the needs that may arise for the victims of gender violence in the damaged municipalities”. The 016 has also been reinforced with four specialist psychologists and the telephone service ATENPRO provides an individualized follow-up of the 875 female users living in the affected municipalities. In the province of Valencia, there are 1,900 users.
As for the COMETA devices, of the total of 270 in the province, 137 on which special monitoring is carried out, are linked to women residing in the municipalities affected by DANA.
And within the measures of the Royal Decree-Law, of 11 November, on urgent measures to promote the Plan of Immediate Response to the Damage of the DANA, the Ministry of Equality has granted grants of up to 500,000 €, destined to local entities for actions of prevention and assistance to the victims of male violence.
In Spain there are 1,286 women who have been murdered by their partners or former partners from 2003 to the present, (41 in 2024). In addition, there are 463 orphaned minors since 2013, (30 this year) and 61 minors have also been killed by gender violence since 2013.
The event, held at the Palau del Temple, headquarters of the Delegation, served to remember all the women murdered this year at the hands of their partners or former partners. Under the title No empty chair, the Delegation has placed chairs with the names of each of the victims of gender violence in Spain during 2024. This tribute began with the reading of an excerpt from the institutional declaration on the occasion of the 25N and later, a minute of silence has been kept in which, among others, the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, the Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities, Diana Morant, and the delegate of the Government, Pilar Bernabé, participated.
