The delegate of the Government in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, has pointed out on the International Day against the Sexual Exploitation and Trafficking of Women, Girls and Children that “the Government of Spain continues its fight against this modern slavery that has an undeniable gender dimension”. According to Bernabé, “about 97% of victims of trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation are women and girls.”
Bernabé has deployed two tarpaulins on the façade of the headquarters of the Government Delegation in commemoration of this International Day and has subsequently met with entities specialized in the care of victims of sexual exploitation and trafficking. “Today is a day in which the entities that fight against this violence against women must be given a voice and visibility.”
The delegate reiterated “the Government’s commitment to eradicate this social scourge in which the most vulnerable people are used as mere merchandise, flagrantly violating human rights.” In this regard, he has highlighted “the progress made by the Government” in terms of the rights of victims of sexual exploitation and the approval by the Council of Ministers of the Preliminary Draft Law against Trafficking. “We need a legal and regulatory framework to put the victim at the center of prevention policies,” said the delegate. In addition, he said, the Government has approved “a battery of projects to help women victims to enter the workplace and also with housing solutions.” Barnabas added that we must continue working with “committed governments to address this situation that is worth fighting for and that all political forces agree.”
