The delegate of the Government in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, said that “València is one of the safest big cities in Spain thanks to the work and effort of the National Police” and “the collaboration of the Forces and Bodies of the State with other security bodies”. Bernabé, who today met with neighborhood associations of the city and the commerce sector, has indicated that the crime rate of the city of València has decreased 1.57 points between January and August 2024 compared to the same period of the previous year, according to data from the National Police.
“The city of València is safe,” said Bernabé, “and the Valencian Community is also safe with crime data that is adjusted to a population of more than five million and that, in addition, multiplies its population by three almost throughout the year,” said the delegate. For this reason, he pointed out, these data “disassemble some information that, sometimes intentionally, mixes security issues with ideological themes of absolutely xenophobic dyes”.
Bernabé added that currently “there are more National Police officers in the city of Valencia than ever thanks to the commitment of the Government of Spain”. This increase in the number of personnel has favored, among other things, that “the results regarding police effectiveness are significantly improved: there are more detainees and more cases resolved”.
The delegate has informed neighborhood associations and the commerce sector that among the crimes that are reduced, robberies with violence (-4%), robberies with force (-5.61%), vehicle theft (almost -20%) and theft ( -15.77%) stand out, according to police reports. Among the crimes that are increasing, the delegate has highlighted cybercrime and sexual assaults and male violence.
Bernabé has announced that the Government Delegation and the National Police will work together with neighbors and merchants to report on cybersecurity. In addition, the Delegation will promote the activation of a protocol of action so that both neighborhood and commercial associations become safe points in the fight against male violence. The delegate also reminded these groups of the importance of the AlertCops app “fundamental to any situation of danger and that speeds up the reporting of criminal acts”.
