The delegate of the Government in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, has held a meeting with the general director of Civil Protection and Emergencies, Virginia Barcones, and with the steering committee of Operation Paso del Angolo (OPE) to analyze the development of this operation in the ports of Alicante and Valencia. Barnabas pointed out that, “to date, between the two ports, the movement of passengers has accounted for 28,000 people.”
According to Bernabé, in the Port of Alicante the OPE “accounts for 2% of the traffic that this operation generates in Spain, in which there is a coordination effort of all administrations. Therefore, I would like to thank the General Director of Civil Protection and Emergencies for her special effort so that the Port of Alicante has adequate facilities to serve people who travel from the city of Alicante to Oran and Algiers.
In Alicante, a total of 15,646 passengers had boarded until July 24, while in the OPE of 2023 they did 17,337. As for vehicles, as of July 24, they had embarked 5,174, while in 2023 they embarked 4,426.
Regarding the Port of Valencia, Bernabé said that it also accounts for 2% of the total traffic produced by the OPE and that “it has experienced a growth in travelers compared to last year. In 2023 we had one rotation a week and this year there are 3 Valencia-Mostaganem trips”. He added that “13,600 passengers and 4,000 vehicles have already passed through the port of Valencia, while last year 4,478 passengers and 1,331 vehicles boarded.”
Pilar Bernabé has also indicated that “there is a correct operation in both ports, without the OPE generating any negative impact on the rest of the activity and services provided in both infrastructures. The forecast is that in the next 10 days there will be the greatest influx and the greatest tension due to the number of passengers and vehicles expected, they are already the last days of the OPE’s one-way operation.”
The Delegate of the Government in the Valencian Community thanked the General Director of Civil Protection “who wanted to visit the Port of Valencia to know first-hand how the OPE is developing and all its General Directorate for the support they always provide”.
A gratitude that Barnabas has extended to the whole device that participates in this operation for its work: the Security Forces and Corps, Maritime Captaincy, Customs, Red Cross, Health, Emergencies, and “all the people who work for this OPE to develop normally”.
“I am absolutely convinced that our ports are fully prepared for the OPE, as well as our national Civil Protection system,” he concluded.
