The Government Delegation in the Valencian Community has displayed the LGTBI flag on the facade of its headquarters, in the Temple Palace, on the occasion of the celebration of the International Day against homophobia, transphobia and biphobia.
Previously, the delegate of the Government in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, attended the rally convened at the gates of the Valencian Corts to denounce the setback and lack of recognition to LGTBI entities. In this act, the delegate has conveyed her solidarity with Lambda “for her historical trajectory in the defense of the rights of the LGTBI collective.” Bernabé has highlighted all the initiatives put in place for the defense of LGBTI people. They are, as he said, “laws that have been approved in all institutions in line with the progressive policies that Europe has developed for the defense of the rights of LGBTI people and that Spain leads.”
Barnabas lamented that “although for years there has been unanimous support for this group, now the consensus has been broken”. “What is expected,” he said, “of a responsible government is to put in place all the mechanisms to defend the LGBTI community that has felt discrimination.” The Government of Spain “implements these mechanisms so that no one is left behind and feels discriminated against”. Today, he said, “is the day to celebrate equality and fight against hatred, and the hate speeches that are the anteroom of crime”, but also “it is a sad day because the claim should be of everyone and all and is only on one side”.
The Government of Spain, as stated in the institutional declaration on the occasion of this day, “reaffirms its strong commitment to the rights of LGTBI+ people and against discrimination due to sexual orientation, sexual identity, gender expression or sexual characteristics without forgetting the violation of rights that takes place in a large number of countries of the world, in some of which punitive laws are maintained that imply, in some cases, the death penalty. Therefore, among the priorities of our foreign action and international cooperation, is support for the rights of LGBTI+ people.”
In this regard, the Government “shows once again this year its firm commitment to defend the rights of LGBTI+ people, both nationally and internationally, and is committed to taking the necessary measures to continue making progress in eradicating the discrimination, attacks and acts of violence that LGBTI+ people continue to suffer today.”
