· The operation closes with two moral victims on the Valencian roads
· The delegate of the Government regrets the two fatal accidents and recalls that “as long as a single person loses his life on the roads, work will continue on the awareness of drivers”
The special operation of the DGT on the occasion of the Easter holidays has been closed in the Valencian Community with a 50% decrease in the number of fatal and deceased accidents in relation to the same period of the previous year.
According to the Traffic data, between March 22 and April 1 of this year, two people have lost their lives in two traffic accidents in the Valencian Community (one in Alicante, with a deceased and another in Castellón, with another person dead). In the campaign of 2023, in the period of Holy Week -31 March to 10 April- 4 people died in the 4 traffic accidents that occurred on the Valencian roads.
By province, in Alicante and Castellón there is no variation in relation to the same operation of the previous year: an accident with one deceased in each province; while in Valencia there is a 100% decrease: there is a change from two accidents with two deceased in the Holy Week of 2023 to no fatal accident in the one of 2024.
The delegate of the Government in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, has lamented the two fatal accidents with two deaths and has shown her solidarity with the relatives of the victims. Bernabé has indicated that “despite the decrease in the number of fatalities, as long as a single person loses his life on the roads we will have to continue working on the awareness of drivers so that they take extreme precautions and respect the traffic regulations”.
The total number of long-distance journeys nationwide throughout the Holy Week was 16,550,000 of which 12% (2,002,550 journeys) corresponded to the Valencian Community and 22% to the area of influence of this Traffic Management Centre.
