The Delegate of the Government in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, has presided in the Subdelegation of the Government in Alicante the minute of silence, called by the Delegation of the Government in the Valencian Community, in condemnation of the latest machista murder in Sagunt (València) and in support of the relatives of the victims.
With Sagunto’s victim, six women have been murdered by their partners or former partners in the Valencian Community so far in 2023, 54 in Spain, as Bernabé recalled after the minute of silence. “This is an unbearable figure that makes us reflect and raise our voices in the face of any intention to backtrack on a social and unanimous consensus to combat gender violence.” For this reason, he added, “Denial speeches are unbearable, you cannot look the other way.” The delegate stressed that “more than ever, we must speak out to those who try to hide a reality” because gender violence “is structural, we must name it, it has its own characteristics. Therefore, there is no room for negationist speeches and lukewarm politics.” Barnabas reiterated that it is essential to denounce any situation of violence against women “because denunciation is fundamental for the protection of victims.”
A minute of silence has also been called at the headquarters of the Government Delegation in Valencia, presided over by the Government’s subdelegate in this province Raquel Ibáñez, and attended, among other authorities, by the general of the 6th Civil Guard area, Arturo Prieto. In the subdelegation of the Government in Castellón, this act has been presided over by the subdelegate of the Government, Soledad Ten.
