The Delegate of the Government in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, has inaugurated the Seminar on coordinated action between EU and national agencies with coastguard and police functions together with the General of the Civil Guard Division and head of the Coastal and Maritime Police Headquarters, Carlos Crespo and the General Head of the 6th Zone of the Civil Guard, Arturo Prieto. The seminar is organized by the Civil Guard within the 13 events prepared by the Armed Institute on the occasion of the Spanish Presidency of the European Union.
Bernabé recalled that Spain, the southern maritime border of the European Union, “has the Maritime Service of the Civil Guard, as a main actor in the integral response to the threats and challenges that reach us through the sea”, among them, migratory flows that have behind criminal groups that traffic people’s lives, drug trafficking or illegal fishing, among others.
Bernabé highlighted “the commitment and commitment of the Government of Spain to the safety of the Spanish maritime area” guaranteed by the Armed Institute. In this regard, he recalled the € 26M of the Next Generation Funds allocated by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food for the renovation of four patrol boats of the Maritime Service of the Civil Guard. One of them, the Riaza River, joined the fleet in València, last March.
The Maritime Service of the Civil Guard, created in 1991, is composed of more than 1,300 troops from all over Spain, to which are added the more than 200 troops of the Special Groups of Underwater Activities.
