· The government delegate points out that the fight against cybercrime is one of the “new challenges” of the FCSE
· In 2023, more than 18,200 cybercrime complaints have been processed in the C.Valenciana
· The National Police exceeds 7,100 agents in the Valencian Community, of which about 20% are women
The delegate of the Government in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, has highlighted “the commitment” of the National Police in the fight against gender violence, which has processed 5,727 complaints in its area of competence so far this year. Bernabé, who presided over the events of the National Police Master’s Day together with the Superior Chief of Police in the Valencian Community, Jorge Marti, acknowledged the work of the Police in the face of “the heartbreaking upsurge of male violence”. In this regard, he recalled that the National Police “has been one of the pioneering institutions in the fight against these crimes since the 1980s, with the Family and Women Care Units (UFAM).”
In addition, Bernabé has also highlighted the role played by the Office of Complaints and Attention to Women (ODAM) of València, a 24-hour care center, which in its first six months of operation has attended to more than 1,300 women, 950 of them due to gender violence.
The delegate has been “convinced that the model of cooperation and collaboration between security forces and institutions is key to eradicating violence that harasses half the population just because they are women.”
The government delegate has also referred to what she has called a “new challenge” for the State Security Forces and Bodies such as the fight against cybercrime. The Police has processed 18,273 cybercrime complaints so far in 2023, which places the Valencian Community as one of the four autonomies that concentrate more criminal offenses in this area. Barnabas pointed out that this type of crime is part “of a complex phenomenon within a global scenario, which requires constant updating and ongoing training.”
Another of the actions highlighted has been the fight against hate crimes. According to the data provided by Bernabé, in 2022 there were a total of 188 known facts of hate crimes in the Valencian Community, which means a 3.1% reduction in relation to 2021. The main hate crimes committed are linked to the attack on sexual orientation, racism and xenophobia. So far in 2023, in the area of police competence, 72 complaints have been processed.
Effective in “more egalitarian and dignified” environments
The delegate has indicated that the Comunitat Valenciana is “the one that has increased the number of troops the most in the last four years”. Currently, according to him, the National Police exceeds 7,100 agents in the C. Valencian, of which about 20% are women. This percentage indicates “the progressive feminization of the National Police”, although there is still “an important task to break the glass ceilings”.
At the same time, the delegate has expressed “the commitment of the Government to guarantee working environments with decent conditions”. At that point, he highlighted the 30 M€ for the Zapadores Complex, which is “the biggest investment in police infrastructures”. As he said, the Ministry of the Interior’s plan is to invest a total of more than 52.2 M€ in the Valencian Community, both in new works and in works of reform, conditioning and energy efficiency, “to make the police stations safer and more efficient”.
