· So far this year, the CHJ has invested around 11M€ in the regeneration of rivers
· Bernabé announces actions of €1.5M for the regeneration of the Turia between Manises and Paterna or the €3M for the recovery of the Albaida River
The delegate of the Government in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, together with the president of the Hydrographic Confederation of Júcar (CHJ), Miguel Polo, and the mayor of Gandia, José Manuel Prieto, has visited the first phase of the river restoration of the Serpis river to which the Government of Spain has allocated more than one million euros.
The performances take place in a stretch of one and a half kilometres long, from where the road to the beach ends, specifically between the bridges ‘Torre dels Pares’ and ‘Pont de Daimús’.
The work of Phase 1, which will last for 10 months, consists, according to the delegate, “in eliminating invasive species, mostly common cane, and recovering the riverside vegetation that is necessary to reduce the power of the river before large avenues”. Subsequently, during Phase 2, autochthonous vegetation will be planted on a regular basis.
Solid urban waste will also be removed, with the aim of, progressively and in collaboration with the City of Gandia, achieving a future natural way of environmental connection with the beach and for the neighbors to recover this space.
The delegate of the Government has pointed out that the CHJ “is making a significant economic effort to carry out this type of action.” In this regard, she has said that “so far in 2023, 11 million have been invested to recover more than 10 kilometers of waterways, data that show the commitment of the Government to the good condition of our rivers.” To the performances in the river Serpis is added an investment of €1.5M in the river Turia at the height of Paterna and Manises or the €3M in the river Albaida. Since 2018, “the Government of Pedro Sánchez has invested more than €30M in the recovery of rivers compared to the two million invested by previous governments”.
The actions visited today are part of the “Integral restoration of the Serpis River and its tributaries from the Beniarrés Reservoir to its mouth”, included in the program of measures of the Júcar Hydrological Plan 2022-2027, whose objective is “to recover the natural state of the river from the Beniarrés Reservoir to its mouth”, said Bernabé.
