The delegate of the Government in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, presided over the minute of silence that has been kept at the gates of the Palau del Temple, headquarters of the Delegation of the Government, in revulsion for the latest case of male violence registered in the town of Alzira.
At the end of the act, Barnabas pointed out that we are facing “another machista murder in the Valencian Community, a murder that must be denounced and addressed as what it is: the social scourge that is killing women for being so”.
The delegate stressed that “it is being a harsh and cruel August with women” and, therefore, from all Administrations “it is necessary to work on the development and compliance of the State Pact against Gender Violence, which is the fundamental tool of coordination”. Bernabé added that “the Government Delegation is going to be vigilant so that all municipalities comply with the State Pact because we have received news from municipalities that have removed posters and information related to advice to women in the fight against gender violence”.
Barnabas recalled that the councils receive subsidies for the development of policies to combat male violence “therefore, we will be vigilant of its non-compliance,” he reiterated.
With this case of male violence in Alzira, the number of women murdered by their partners and ex-partners in the Valencian Community has risen to 3 so far this year, and to 40 throughout Spain.
Since 2003, the number of women killed has risen to 1,224. Of these, 151 in the Valencian Community.
