The Government Delegate, Rafael García, held a meeting in Madrid with the heads of the General Directorate of Planning and Management of Infrastructures and Means for Security, dependent on the Ministry of the Interior.
The meeting addressed, among other issues, the upcoming implementation of the Smart Border. The Ministry has highlighted the commitment to the road map designed by the Government of the Nation, to turn the Tarajal pass into an international model at the technological level that will incorporate systems such as the EES (Entry Exit System) or the Agil Pass System (SPA).
The project, which has an investment of 6.8 million euros, will represent a radical change in the operation of the border crossing, betting on a model based on agility and security.
Also related to the border crossing, the Government Delegate has conveyed the need to look for solutions to be able to provide shaded areas for pedestrian access. A proposal that has been well received by the Directorate General of Planning and Management of Infrastructures and Means for Security and that will be incorporated into the project, with the aim of facilitating the user experience when high temperatures or adverse weather conditions occur.
Finally, emphasis has been placed on the need to make the works compatible and their consequent inconveniences with the development of Operation Passage of the Strait, a device that last year moved about 700,000 people and 170,000 vehicles.
