- The Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, has today moved to the Autonomous City of Ceuta, where she has visited several units of her General Command (COMGECEU) and has reaffirmed the existing union between the Land Army and the city. During the visit, Robles also reiterated the support of the Ministry of Defense for the Integral Plan that contemplates the release of land for the autonomous city.
The head of Defence, who was accompanied by the Chief of Staff of the Spanish Army (JEME), Army General Amador Teachat, has moved first to the Cantonment ‘GE Pardo de Santayana’. The general commander of Ceuta, Major General Marcos Llago, the president of the Autonomous City of Ceuta, Juan Jesús Vivir, and the delegate of the Government to the city, Cristina Pérez, were waiting for her.
In a few words to representatives of the units of the Command, the minister referred to the autonomous city as “that piece of Spain in which we feel very dear and close to everyone” and thanked the garrison for its professionalism, dedication and humanity and for leaving “the Spanish pavilion very high”.
He also took advantage of his words to congratulate them on the Christmas holidays, since “regardless of the religion of each one, there is something that unites us all, which is to work for peace, for human beings and for making our society fairer and better.”
The head of Defense has also reiterated her support for the Integral Plan of Socioeconomic Development of the City of Ceuta, which, she has assured, carries with it a “very large role of the Land Army so that the Ceutians have more land available and our Army can live in better conditions.”
For its part, JEME has also approached the personnel of the units of the Command, whom it has thanked for their “high degree of operability, their work and their dedication”. “I want to tell you that I am proud to send you,” he said.
MEETING WITH FAMILIES AND WOUNDED
Robles ha visitado el Regimiento de Caballería ‘Montesa’ nº3, en el Acuartelamiento ‘Coronel Galindo’. In his Hall of Honor he met with the relatives of the soldiers Dario Duzmán and Abdel-lah Dal-Louh Ahmed, of Corporal Driss Amar and of the legionary lady Nayra Solero, all of whom died. The family of wounded soldier Musa Hamed, as well as wounded soldier Francisco Núñez and Corporal 1º Roberto Hernández were present at the same meeting.
To all of them he has conveyed his support, assuring that “you are all an example of integrity and of love for others.” “In the Army we will always be by your side. I feel your suffering and I can only encourage you to move on. Those who are missing are sure to be proud of the legacy they left behind. Let that example help us to be better,” the minister said.
Subsequently, Robles has moved to the quartering ‘Coronel Fiscer’, where he has visited a nativity scene that represents a model of this quartering with memories of the military units of Ceuta and finally, he has visited the quartering ‘Teniente Coronel González-Tablas’, where he has met with members of the cultural association of descendants of soldiers of the Corps of Regulars of Ceuta, ACUDEMIRE.

Currently, COMGECEU is composed of almost 2,700 military personnel, whose mission is to train themselves to generate the operational organizations that could be assigned to them and carry out operations both on national territory and abroad. In addition, they make an effective contribution to State action and Defence Diplomacy through active participation in cooperative security activities in recent years in Senegal, Mauritania and Tunisia.
The COMGECEU is organically dependent on the Canary Islands Command and is made up of the Group of Regulars of Ceuta nº54, the Third ‘Duque de Alba’ 2nd of the Legion, the Regiment of Cavalry ‘Montesa’ nº3, the Regiment of Mixed Artillery nº30, the Regiment of Engineers nº7, the Logistics Unit nº23 and the Battalion of Headquarters of the Command.
